When you get a text message that says something to the effect of
Please call as soon as you can
One tends to think that there may be an urgent situation developing. This is even more the logical assumption when the message comes from someone with a great personal meaning to the recipient (as opposed to a text message from an angsty partner who needs a coffee).
When the above described scenario unfolds, I attempt to make the call as quickly as possible (the response is even faster when the text message author is say, for instance, the mother of my significant other). I excuse myself from what I was doing, I hit call and I begin to imagine what could possibly be waiting on the other end of this call
Her: Thanks for calling me back.
Me: But of course, what can I help you with?
Her: I have a situation and I want to know something.
Me: Absolutely.
Her: How do I get out of Jury Duty?
I am not sure that my response of ‘I would love to be on a jury!’ was exactly the advice she was looking to hear.
I honestly don’t understand why people want to get out of jury duty. It’s interesting! I was on a grand jury here in Phoenix and had a blast. I wanted to do it so badly that I had to totally rearrange my schedule (school and work). Maybe I’m just crazy like that.
